BANKS
There are numerous banks in both the Old Town and New Town. Opening times are normally 9-00AM - 2-00PM Monday to Saturday. Most of the banks have ATM cash point machines which are available 24 hours. Greek Skies Travel Agency is the official agent for American Express on Corfu and is located at 20A Kapodistriou.
HOSPITAL
The principal hospital is located on Julius Andreatti. It is well signposted around the town.
POLICE STATION
The police station (Tel +30 2661039575) is at 19 Leoforos Alexandros, near the post office (see below).
POST OFFICE
The main post office (Tel +30 2661025544) is located at 26 Leoforos Alexandros in Corfu Town. The office is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 8 pm. In July and August, it is often open for a few hours on Saturday. Throughout the island, you will find yellow Post Boxes. Stamps are available at most supermarkets and mini markets.
BRITISH CONSUL
The British Consul is located at 1 Menekrates (Tel +30 26610 30055), at the south end of the town, near the Menekrates monument. The consulate is able to attend to the needs of all British Commonwealth citizens.
WATER
Tap water is fine for cleaning teeth or boiling a kettle for tea or coffee, but for drinking, we recommend that you buy bottled water which is cheap and plentiful.
ELECTRICITY
Mains electricity is supplied at 220 volts. Continental style plugs are used. Two pin plug adapters are available at most mini markets.
NEWSPAPERS
Most British national daily papers are now printed in Athens and can normally be purchased on the day of publication, although usually late in the day.
INTERNET
There are two internet cafes; Online Cafe is at 28 Kapodistriou, on the Esplanade, whilst Netoikos is located at 14 Kalochairetou, behind Agios Spiridon Church. Both are open daily from late morning to late evening. Internet access can be found in most of the hotels on the island, though prices and availability will vary.
